Mama. is a film project centred on the emotions within mother-daughter relationships. The story is divided into six videos, each focusing on a single emotion.
Sadness, surprise, anger, disgust, fear and joy are expressed through costume, set design and sound, without the use of dialogue.
The project is an ode to mothers and daughters. You do not choose one another; from the very beginning of life, you are connected. That relationship can be loving, complicated, painful, comforting, or all of these at once, yet it remains one of the most universal relationships we know.
Sterre Baks is a costume designer and dresser for film and television. Her work goes beyond visual credibility, focusing on the wider meaning of costume and the way it can help tell a story.
