Bersama-sama chair
At a time when we increasingly live within our own bubbles and fast consumption has become the norm, the Bersama-sama Chair shows how Moluccan values can also hold meaning within a Western context. While masohi (mutual support), bongso (connection) and adat (tradition) remain deeply rooted in Moluccan communities, this design translates these values into a new environment.
Referencing the bongso bond, the chair consists of three separate elements that support one another and only take shape when brought together. Serving dishes are incorporated into the backrest, encouraging sharing and togetherness.
Through craftsmanship and the making process, the design creates space for slowing down and paying attention. Sustainability takes on a deeper meaning through the story behind the object. The chair is intended for people looking for objects with meaning, where function and narrative come together.
