Connection through creation
When Babette Dohmen looked back at her portfolio in the final year of her studies, one clear thread emerged: connecting through creation. With recurring themes like nature, technology, society, and research forming the foundation. Exactly that now comes together in her role as content creator at Studio DRIFT—a dream job that feels like the result of a carefully built career. Except Babette is only 22, and graduated from Artemis just two years ago. “The content I create has always focused on telling the story of the process. The great thing is: that’s exactly what DRIFT was looking for.”
After graduating, Babette spent a year working at a creative agency, gaining valuable hands-on experience. But it was her personal and professional growth at Artemis that truly prepared her for her current role. And that journey started even earlier, at home. “My parents founded a community in Portugal years ago, centered on reconnecting with people and nature. I felt that same need—but in the city, with and for my generation.” In her early years at Artemis, she focused on nature and sustainability, exploring how these ideas could translate into more meaningful urban connection. “I was exploring how humans can draw inspiration from nature to develop innovative ideas that help us navigate a world in flux. Innovative technologies played a big part in that, something that thankfully is now included in the curriculum—though it wasn’t at the time.”
From viral video to strategic vision
During her time at Artemis, Babette and two fellow students created a short video for a school project, which unexpectedly went viral on TikTok. “I didn’t even know what TikTok was, and suddenly we had 10,000 international followers. It showed me how powerful social media can be when it taps into a real need—even if it’s unpredictable.” That experience sparked her interest in using social media as a strategic tool. Through Artemis, she learned how to develop content from A to Z—from initial research to final design.
Telling the story from the inside out
That broad skillset now comes to full fruition at DRIFT, where Babette translates the creative process behind the artworks to the outside world. “Most people only see the final result. By showing what happens behind the scenes, we align with the spirit of the times: people want to understand how something is made, not just admire the outcome.” It turns out the artists at DRIFT were looking for just that—to tell the story behind the work.
A format with impact
Babette developed the strategy and content formats that bring the behind-the-scenes narrative to the forefront. The first videos she filmed and edited herself immediately struck a chord. “In these videos, the artists share the stories behind the works directly on camera. Before, you’d only see the polished end result. Now, we tailor our content to the process—raw, inspiring, and future-facing.” She’s been given a lot of creative freedom in her role, and she values that deeply. “I didn’t come from the art world, so I had to adjust—but I get to do what I’m good at. And it works.”
Give it your all, but stay true to yourself
Babette applied to DRIFT through an Instagram Story and has been working there since March 2025. How much did Artemis contribute to the rapid growth of her career after graduation? “It’s almost impossible to explain how everything came together so beautifully. What helped is that I gave everything during my studies—maybe even too much at times. But it gave me direction. Even the jobs or internships that didn’t go as planned played a part in getting here.” Her advice to current students is crystal clear: “Take the leap, challenge yourself, and get everything you can out of it. But stay in touch with how you feel, so you don’t lose sight of who you are.”
